In some instances, victims of domestic violence feel cornered in the situation because they lack resources to move out and start afresh or they have children or sometimes because they fear what the perpetrator might do to them if they choose to leave.
Many cases of domestic violence remain unreported for different reasons. Some victims hold on hoping that their significant other will change, others, choose to stay silent because of the fear of being judged by others. There’s also another group of victims who want out but are scared of what awaits them on the other side – mainly if the abuser was the breadwinner.
The equation becomes even more complicated when there are children involved in the process. Many victims choose to stay in an abusive relationship just so that their children can grow in a complete family.
