Having Business with International Clients
You would like to think that life after success is easy, but if you ask those who have been through it, they would actually say the opposite, that success can make your life harder. There is a certain theory called the Peter Principle which came from Dr Laurence Peter that states that every employee is bound to be promote if he does well in his job, but his new position will be something he is not really suited for. This is because in your previous position you can easily complete the tasks that were given to you and you have the capability to do the job. In your new position, there is a whole new set of responsibilities which are more difficult than your previous ones. You may perhaps do well in this position too and when your superiors are impressed, you are putting yourself in the way of another promotion.
At some point in the hierarchy, you will be put in a position which is completely beyond your capability. And then you realize that you were only competent up to the previous job you had. We see here that through regular promotions, since there are no demotions in corporations, an employee can lose his effectiveness in his new role as compared to his old position. Since not all employees reach their level of incompetence at the same time, there will still be others making good and continue to make the corporation prosper. Running your own business is different since there is no hierarchy to speak of. If you are not able to do things well, you will expect your business to suffer. But if you are successful in it, you should try to venture in international business.
It should excite you to be meeting people from different parts of the globe. But, you will need to give them a good impression and make them recognize your abilities. To achieve that, here are some thing you need to do.
Do not make your international guests take a commercial flight but rather book jet charter companies if you are asking them to come over. It is expensive yet it is one good way of impressing them so that it will end up with a good business deal. And then it will not seem so expensive after all. If you are choosing accommodation, choose a great hotel which will impress them so that it can help in building up your relationship with them. Give them something that they would do for themselves if they were the ones to do it in a place familiar to them.
If you have having these business guests, then at least make a research of what kind of people they are. There are those who would rather be active and some would like more of a quiet relaxing place.
